Acai is one of the healthiest berries on earth.  It is filled with the essential antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that the body needs in order to function well and to strengthen its defense from a lot of illnesses.  Since acai is usually dark purple in color, it is most probable that the anthocyanins in it are being colored by the presence of alkali.  In nature, it is the anthocyanins that determine a fruit and flowers their colors.  It is in this pigment that fruits and flowers hold much of their antioxidant content.  The color of the anthocyanins is dependent whether the plant or the soil where it is planted in is acidic or basic. If it is acidic, most likely the color is reddish, if basic or alkali related, then the color is bluish or close to purple.
